We have not tested these feeders. Nearly everyone in this category says they tested twenty units in their backyard. We have not tested any, and we say so — here is what we did instead.

What a review here is made of

Four inputs, all of which you can check yourself. Published manufacturer and major-retailer specifications — capacity, port count, materials, dimensions, what is included. The maker’s own description of how the feeder comes apart, which is the criterion we weight most heavily. Port geometry and design, compared against what actually excludes a bee. And live pricing, which renders from a data layer rather than from a number we typed in — where no live price is available, the page says “check price” rather than guessing.

What is missing from that list is hands-on use, and we would rather say so than borrow authority we have not earned. Every specification we quote is cited on the page it appears on, so you can verify any of it in about thirty seconds.

Every review names who should not buy it

This is a standing rule rather than an occasional flourish. A feeder that is right for a sheltered suburban yard is wrong on a windy pole; a 12 oz saucer is wrong for a yard that empties it daily; a camera feeder is wrong for anyone already reluctant about the cleaning schedule.

A review that cannot name a single buyer it is wrong for has not reviewed anything. So each page here carries a “who should not buy this” section with specific cases, not hedges.

The score, and what it is not

Every pick carries an editorial score out of ten. It reflects our reading of the published specifications against the criteria on our methodology page — weighted heavily toward cleaning access, because that is the attribute with a welfare consequence.

It is not a customer rating, and it is not a test result. It also never appears in this site’s structured data, deliberately: marking an editorial opinion up as a product review rating would contradict the plain statement above that we have not tested these feeders.
